Movie News for the Week of April 15th - April 22nd

With not much news this week, here are the few headlines to talk about,

  • George Miller announced this week that he is working on another sequel to the popular franchise Mad Max after the success of the recent Mad Max: Fury Road (check out this week's podcast for our take on the movie). While not officially announced by Warner Brothers, Miller discussed his idea of the next movie titled Mad Max:Wasteland  in a  Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith. Tom Hardy is signed on to play the title role in three more movies, so he will most likely return to the role in any sequels.

  • Legendary cinematographer Roger Deacons has signed on to the announced Blade Runner sequel. Deacons has been nominated for Achievement in Cinematography by the Academy of Motion Pictures 11 times for films such as, the Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and most recently Unbroken. He also worked on other beautiful movies such as, Skyfall, The Big Lebowski, Jarhead, as well as countless others. HE will be working alongside director Denis Villeneuve, for the third time after the films Prisoners, and the yet to be relaeasd Sicario. Harrison Ford is signed on to return as Rick Deckard with Ryan Gosling yet to be officially signed on to the project. The sequel will reportedly take place "decades after the events of the original Blade Runner", which is set around the year 2019. There is no set release date for the film.
  • The Hollywood Reporter, reported yesterday that Reese Witherspoon is set to play Tinkerbell in an upcoming live action movie Tink released by Disney. Victoria Strouse who penned the script for the upcoming sequel to Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, is set to write the script for the project while Witherspoon will star and produce. No director is currently on board.
  • The Brad Pitt lead World War Z: Part 2 was given a release date today. It seems the film will be up against The Fantastic Four 2 on June 9, 2017 moving further away from its original release date and further from Star Wars Episode VIII because let's be honest, no one should release anything around the same time as a Star Wars film, good or bad.

That's all the important news this week. So, here are a few links for you to check out.
